SUPERIOR – Superior Cannabis Company, which provides CBD products derived from hemp, opened a new storefront in the city that bears its name on May 1.

The new location at 1325 Tower Ave., is open seven days a week.
Superior Cannabis Company provides hemp flowers as well as CBD tinctures, topical rubs, vapes, tablets, gummies and more. THC-free products as well as apparel and gifts, such as bath bombs, are also available.
The business focuses on organic, Minnesota-grown products. Roughly 70% of the CBD products sold in the store are made from hemp grown in a USDA certified organic farm in Austin, Minnesota, according to retail specialist Seth Hiemstra.
This marks the third storefront for the business. The first location opened in Austin in 2019, followed by a store in Duluth’s Canal Park a year later. For Jeff Brinkman, who lives in Austin, the business came full circle when the Tower Avenue store opened.
“Superior is where we conceived the idea,” he said.
Brinkman was celebrating his birthday at Thirsty Pagan Brewing when inspiration hit. It was October 2018 and changes to the federal Farm Bill had opened the door to legal hemp farming.
Driving across the Blatnik Bridge that night, Brinkman told his wife he’d like to grow cannabis for a living. She said OK and their entrepreneurial journey began.
“We’ve had really good support. And I think what’s really been appreciative is just the community has been so open and really positive, “Brinkman said.
He’s hoping to tap into the synergy of Superior’s small business community.
“All of these little businesses feeding off each other is really what kind of builds that community with customers,” Brinkman said.
One of the things that sets Superior Cannabis Company apart is education, according to Hiemstra. The shop provides information, and retail specialists can break down the difference between the cannabinoids, ranging from CBD and CBN to Delta-8.
“That’s kind of what we’re here for is the basic education for people,” Hiemstra said.
The goal is to provide customers with the product that will work for them, he said, not just sell products.
The Superior store will share staff with the Duluth location, with a total of 12 employees between the two. Superior Cannabis Company is leasing the space, a former optical shop. Hiemstra said it’s a prime location for the business, located downtown on a busy street and flanked by two restaurants.
Superior Cannabis Company is open from 11 am to 7 pm daily.
