Portuguese language is top: Diogo Moreira leads FP1

A dry track was the scene of FP1 for the Moto3 class at Motegi this morning. Best on track was Brazilian Diogo Moreira, who set the fastest lap of Friday’s single practice session. Dennis Foggia was second.

With twenty minutes to go, the leader of the table was Jaume Masia with a time of 1:58.069. Ryusei Yamanaka beat that, but was briefly at the top of the timesheets as Izan Guevara improved.

As the final fifteen minutes ticked away, there were marked Improvements on the timesheet. Riccardo Rossi jumped up to second behind Guevara, with Tatsuki Suzuki coming in second with the best time of 1:57.871 – around two-tenths of a second slower than Guevara’s best lap.

The forecast for rain on Saturday was 80/90%, so the times on Friday could be decisive. The little sun on the track was compensated, however, by a completely dry track.

In the final five minutes, Deniz Oncu was up to second place at a stage when the overwhelming majority of Riders were putting soft tires on their bikes for timed attacks that could secure provisional Q2 in view of the forecast bad weather.

One of the biggest improvements was Ayumu Sasaki, who took 0.171s off Guevara’s time and moved into the lead. Andrea Migno jumped up to third when, at turn 13, Lorenzo Fellon was caught on the gravel as he crashed in the final minutes.

The checkered flag was displayed and Dennis Foggia was the new leader, followed by Diogo Moreira, with a time in the low 57s. By the end, there were no more big surprises, with Moreira on top and Foggia with an important second place. Sasaki rounded out the top three.

That was the result of the first free practice at Motegi:
