Port Kennedy Primary School and St Vincent’s School would get upgrades under the Albanese Government

Two primary schools in the electorate of Brand are set to get significant upgrades should an Albanese Government be elected at the May 21 poll.

Labor has pledged $ 20,000 for upgrades at Port Kennedy Primary School and $ 20,000 for St Vincent’s School in Parmelia as part of a larger $ 1.7 million investment into school-led projects across the State.

The funding would see Port Kennedy Primary School receive new technology upgrades to assist with digital learning in the classroom and St Vincent’s would get an outdoor upgrade, with its $ 20,000 earmarked for a new outdoor playground.

“Schools like Port Kennedy Primary School and St Vincent’s School do a great job in educating the next generation of Brand residents, and Labor is committed to making a difference to their students,” said Brand MP, Madeleine King.

Ms King also took aim at Prime Minister Scott Morrison, saying Kwinana and Rockingham residents had “received so little” from him.

“(The) Liberals have neglected the basic funding support that means so much for students’ day-to-day school life,” she said.

But the Liberal Party’s plans for “raising school standards” include a funding boost of $ 25.3 billion in 2022 for schools as well as a promise to support innovative pathways into teaching.

Labor says its plan to deliver upgrades across public, independent and Catholic schools across metropolitan and regional WA will build a better future for local school children.

The upgrades would include building maintenance, modern learning equipment and more student support, which shadow education minister Tanya Plibersek says builds on Labor’s plans for more university places and fee-free TAFE.

“A good learning environment is absolutely critical for our kids’ education, and that’s what Labor’s Schools Upgrade Fund will deliver,” Ms Plibersek said.
