Plan To Set Up Higher Education Campus For Disabled In Baruipur | Kolkata News

Kolkata: The department of mass education extension and library services wants to set up a higher studies institute, complete with residential facilities, for persons with disabilities, at the Baruipur educational hub.
Minister of State Mass Education Extension and Library Services Siddiqullah Choudhury said at a state assembly on Thursday that a proposal would be sent to the chief minister soon. “Bengal has 74 schools for persons with disabilities and 15,000 students study there. Education is free till the children turn 18. We want to develop an educational institution with residential facilities where they can stay and study till Plus-II and beyond, for college degrees, ” Choudhury said.
The minister said he had seen the site where the institute was being planned. “Our officials have also seen the proposed site. We will place a proposal on this to the Chief Minister. At the beginning, we will propose to start off with 200 boys and 200 girls on the campus, “Choudhury said, adding that the institute would have developed as grants came in.
During the discussion, the minister also appreciated the role of the principal Calcutta Blind Schoolsaying the school was visually impaired was doing well.
