One Call Car Insurance Review – Forbes Advisor UK
Who is One Call?
One Call is a UK-based insurance broker, founded in 1995 and headquartered in Doncaster.
Starting out with home and car insurance policies in the local region, One Call now operates nationwide brokering insurance policies ranging from travel and health, to pet and business.
If you take an insurance policy through One Call, it will be underwritten by the relevant provider. As a broker however, One Call handles the sale, management and any claims you might make on the policy.
One Call – and every car insurance provider it works with – is fully regulated and authorized by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Why should I consider One Call?
There are several car insurance policy types available through One Call:
- Comprehensive insurance
- Third party insurance
- Third party, fire and theft insurance
- Specialist car insurance
- Classic car insurance
- Temporary car insurance
- Learner driver insurance
- Guaranteed Asset Protection Insurance
- Caravan insurance
All car insurance policies purchased through One Call include basic breakdown cover and legal cover as standard, and you’ll be offered a second car discount if you choose to insure another vehicle.
Protection against uninsured drivers is also included in One Call’s policies as standard. In addition, all named drivers on a One Call policy build their own no discount claims for every year they go without making a claim.
The comprehensive insurance policies sold through One Call come with some additional benefits – such as a free hire car if yours is off the road or written-off after a claim that was not your fault, and windscreen protection. Making a claim for windscreen repair will not affect your no claims discount.
One Call’s car insurance services are rated one-star out of five by Defaqto.

How to find the best cover for you
As you compare car insurance policies, there are a few factors to bear in mind beyond price.
It might be tempting to choose the cheapest policy available, but this may leave you without the right level of cover – which can be more expensive in the long-run if you have to make a claim.
Make sure you check the level of cover you’ll get from each policy you consider. Some policies might look more expensive on paper, but include as standard something you would have to pay extra for with a different provider.
Why it makes sense to compare policies and providers
Traditionally, car insurance providers have offered their best deals to new customers, leaving existing policyholders to pay more with each renewal.
But as of January 2022, new Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) rules mean that car insurance companies are not allowed to charge existing customers more for a renewal than they would charge new customers for an equivalent policy.
Despite the new rules, it’s still a good idea to shop around for your car insurance each year to ensure you’re continuing to get the level of cover you need at the best price.
As well as comparing prices, cover levels, and perks, it is also worth seeking out customer reviews on independent review websites like Trustpilot. This can help you get a sense of how existing policyholders rate their cover and customer service.
Defaqto also gives star ratings to insurance providers, which can offer a good induction of the level of service they provide.
