The headteacher of award winning Mowbray School in Bedale, Jonathan Tearle, is stepping down after 20 years.
Acknowledged by many as the force behind the special school’s success, he has written a letter of thanks to the children, parents, staff and governors.
“It has been an amazing 20 years, working with so many wonderful children, families, staff and governors,” he said. “As a school community we have never lowered our ambitions to constantly improve what we do and the education we offer. I have always believed that we can and do make a positive difference to children’s lives, through what we do and what we offer.
“This mantra has always driven the school forward, 20 years ago there were 140 pupils at the school, in September there will be 311.
“Our expansion has been driven by parental demand, with more and more children and families requiring our support and the education we offer, this is due to the collective efforts of all our staff. Our Ripon site, which has now been open for two and a half years, is an excellent example of the commitment we all have made, to ensure the needs of children across our community can be met.
“This determination to improve our provision is exemplified by the construction underway for three new classrooms to be ready for September and our plans at both our sites to build rebound therapy centers.
“During these past few weeks I have received so many kind wishes and gifts from parents, pupils and staff, this has been quite overwhelming and much appreciated.
“Parental support for our school has always been extremely strong and that partnership between school and home, allows our pupils to achieve their very best, this will no doubt continue in the years ahead. The school is fortunate to have so many talented, dedicated and determined staff, collectively they create success.
“I have to highlight and thank our governors for the support they have given and continue to give to the school, in particular to our chair of governors, Robert Dunning. He is an exceptional person who has given so much of his time and guidance to myself and to the school, I cannot thank him enough for all he has done these past 20 years.
“Our staff are exceptional, each and every one of them play their part in making the school what it is, it would be wrong of me to highlight individuals, they all should feel proud of their achievements and all they give to the children at school .
“I wish the school every success for the future and I have no doubt that the school will continue to improve, develop and be even better than it is now. I very much welcome Rachel Hargreaves, the new executive headteacher, to Mowbray School and hope she will be very happy and successful in her role.”
