A motorbike rider has been catapulted through the air and then run over by a car in a heart-stopping accident captured on a dashcam.

The rider was late to brake when the cars in front abruptly slowed, and rode straight into the rear of the car he was following.

That flung the rider through the air, landing heavily on the road, while a garbage truck that was following the motorbike also hit the stationary car, which was carrying P plates.

Just as the rider was remarkably getting to his feet, the car that was shunted by the garbage truck rolled forward, running over the motorcyclist.

Shocked bystanders then got out of their cars to check on the condition of the rider.

The incredible footage was viewed by tens of thousands of people in a few hours after being uploaded to the Dash Cam Owners of Australia YouTube channel.

The incident happened more than a month ago, but the channel said it waited to post the footage until finding out the rider was not seriously injured.

The crash occurred on May 31 at about 2.30pm in Liverpool in Sydney’s south west, and luckily paramedics were already nearby and quickly able to tend to the injured.

‘A NSW Ambulance Service vehicle was responding westbound under lights when a motorcycle rider traveling eastbound collided with the eastbound vehicle ahead of it,’ a NSW Ambulance spokesperson said.

‘That vehicle was then hit by a truck causing the vehicle to run over the motorcyclist. The crew stopped responding to render immediate assistance. ‘

The spokesman for NSW Ambulance confirmed the rider suffered minor fractures and was discharged after two nights in hospital.

‘Glad to hear the motorcyclist was ok but the P-plater is probably gonna be scarred,’ one person said.

‘When the car at the front stops, each car down the chain has to stop more and more suddenly until someone has to slam on the brakes. This is why following distance is important, ‘another added.

‘Also a good demonstration of why you armor up on the two-wheelers .. Even for the occasion that it’s not your fault,’ said a third.
