Howard Community College appointed Dr. Melissa Curtis as the vice president of student success.

Curtis has more than 22 years of higher education experience, spanning both academic and student affairs. She has most recently served as associate vice chancellor of enrollment management at Austin Community College, leading enrollment strategies for the district’s 11 campuses, and has held positions as dean of student affairs and director of college connection, an award-winning program that increased college enrollment from the region’s 26 school districts.

She began her higher education career as an English professor at Central Texas College. Curtis earned her doctorate in educational administration at the University of Texas at Austin, her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Texas State University and her Bachelor of Arts in oral tradition in African and American literature from Vassar College. She will begin her new role Aug. 1.
