Man United are happy whether Aaron Wan-Bissaka stays or goes this summer.
Erik ten Hag’s squad is starting to slowly take shape. The Dutchman has been very meticulous in terms of players he’s brought into the club, while quickly clearing out those who don’t fit the style.
There’s still plenty of work to be done in terms of both training ground work and further squad adjustments. One player whose future still remains up in the air is Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
All has gone pretty quiet in regards to the future of the English full-back, although it seems clear that Diogo Dalot will start the campaign as the first-choice pick in that area of the field.
Well, Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth has given us an update on Wan-Bissaka’s future. Apparently, Crystal Palace, his former side, are among a ‘number’ of clubs interested in signing him.
From United’s standpoint, they’re ‘open-minded’ about the 24-year-old’s future at the club. The Reds will be happy if Wan-Bissaka is still here at the end of the month, although they’re also ‘mindful’ of what’s best for the player.
Obviously, Wan-Bissaka has been a good servant for the Reds over the last few years. He’s never had a bad word to say about the club despite not playing as much as he’d have liked since Ralf Rangnick took charge. It also seems like he’s not the ideal fit for Ten Hag, although he’s always been willing to fight for his place.
There’s no getting away from the fact that Wan-Bissaka is an elite defender. The Englishman is the best in the business when it comes to the slide tackle and making those last-ditch efforts to win back the ball.
However, in the final third, Wan-Bissaka’s game has not developed as much as we’d all have hoped. The lack of cutting edge in the crossing game coupled with shyness when it comes to finding that ball forward limits its effectiveness in this new system.
In an ideal world, United can get a decent transfer fee for Wan-Bissaka and allow the player to go to a place where he’ll play regularly – and rediscover his best form in the process.
