‘I don’t know what to do’

A young woman started recording when she noticed a strange car following her on her run, and now, the alarming footage is going viral.

TikToker Samantha MacIntyre (@sageandmaize) gained 8.8 million views, 2 million likes, and over 12,000 comments when she uploaded the hair-raising PSA to her account.

Now, much like the mom who filmed a “creepy” man following her and her daughter through Walmart, Samantha’s footage is serving as a stark reminder to women everywhere to always follow their guts.

When Samantha started filming that morning, she had no idea she would capture now viral footage, nor that she would post the video as any kind of PSA.

A half-marathon runner, Samantha frequently documents her mile-long runs on her TikTok account. That morning, she set out to film an 8-mile run, and after stating the temperature and displaying her running outfit, she set off.

The first half of her run went normally — but after posting her 5-mile update, Samantha’s video took a dark turn. “There’s this guy in a red car that’s driven by me twice,” she says as she continues her run. “It’s making me really nervous… I don’t know if I’m being paranoid or what. I’m just documenting this just in case.”

As Samantha continues her run, she comes across the car, a red Pontiac, again. This time, however, the car is parked — and it’s right beside her car.

“I don’t feel good about this. I have to run by this car to get back to my car. There’s literally no other way around,” she says, slowing her run as she talks. “I don’t know what to do… It’s one of those things where you don’t think it’s going to happen to you until it happens to you.”

As Samantha explains later in the video, the cars were parked in an area where no one would have seen or heard her for about a mile and a half — putting her in an incredibly vulnerable position.

After seeking sanctuary at a nearby house, Samantha called her mom to come pick her up — and then called the police.

And while the police later informed Samantha that the man did not have a criminal record, she felt absolutely no regrets for playing it safe and calling them.

“Ted Bundy didn’t have a record either,” she said in a follow-up video.

‘Always trust your gut. ALWAYS.’

TikTokers applauded the way Samantha handled the situation.

“I’m so proud of you for calling the police and asking for help,” one user wrote.

“😭 smart girl. This makes me cry. I have felt your fear. I’m glad you’re safe,” another user commented.

“My gosh my heart was pounding for you🥺,” wrote another user.

“So happy you trusted your gut and found somewhere safe to wait for someone to come pick you up 👏🏼,” applauded another user.

“We’ve all been there and this is SO IMPORTANT to remind women. Don’t ever say you’re making a big deal out of it. Always trust your gut. ALWAYS,” implored another user.

Thankfully, Samantha’s video had a safe and happy ending — but she’s begging other women to always trust their guts, be safe, and stay aware of their surroundings.
