Glowbal Restaurants and Vancouver Firefighter Charities Snacks for Kids program provide 250 meals a week

Glowbal Restaurant Group will continue its philanthropic efforts in the community by providing 250 nutritious and nourishing meals per week for the next year to local students and families in need via Vancouver Firefighter Charities (VFC) Snacks for Kids program starting this October.

Each month, one of the Vancouver-based hospitality group’s 10 restaurants — Glowbal, Coast, Italian Kitchen, Five Sails, Black and Blue, The Roof, Riley’s and Trattoria’s locations — will prepare meals that will then be delivered by off-duty firefighters to elementary and secondary schools across the city for students and their families enrolled in the Snacks For Kids program.

Founded in 2013 in partnership with the Vancouver School Board, Snacks For Kids is a volunteer-led program supported entirely through Vancouver firefighter payroll donations and fundraising events that provides nutritious non-perishable snacks, fresh food and take-home groceries to students across the city .

Prepared with fresh, quality ingredients, the individually packaged meals include Spaghetti and Meatballs, Oven-Roasted Chicken Thighs with French Onion Style Sauce and Beef Bourguignon. All food costs will be absorbed by Glowbal Restaurant Group with additional support provided by donors from the corporate community throughout the school year.

“Our partnership with VFC has been extremely rewarding and we are proud to continue lending a hand,” says Glowbal Restaurant Group CEO Emad Yacoub. “With School Meals For Kids Program, it not only allows us to reaffirm our commitment to vital causes in the community but also ensures that students and families in need across the city don’t have to go hungry.”

Schools that will receive the meals include:

  • Britannia Secondary
  • Templeton Secondary
  • Gladstone Secondary
  • Killarney Secondary
  • John Oliver Secondary
  • David Thompson Secondary
  • Van Tech Secondary
  • Sir Charles Tupper Secondary

Schools that will receive the meals include *schools listed above*. Among those schools, VFC’s Snacks for Kids program is marking its 10thth anniversary supporting both Brittania secondary and Vancouver Technical Secondary, both of which have been identified as having a large population of food-insecure students in critical need of the relief that Snacks For Kids provides.

“We’re so grateful for Glowbal’s continued support,” says VFC Snacks for Kids Coordinator Eric Himmelman. “With their support, we’ve been able to expand our reach and provide nutritious and healthy meals for more than 5000 children in 60 schools and after-school programs across Vancouver. It sets a great example and encourages other businesses and organizations to follow in their footsteps and support worthy causes like Snacks for Kids.”

Glowbal Restaurant Group has long been a supporter of charitable causes in the community at large and stepped up that support during the pandemic by donating meals to a number of organizations that included Snacks For Kids, Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon, A Loving Spoonful, Atira Women’s Resource Society, Directions Youth Services and the Kilala Lelum Urban Indigenous Health and Healing Cooperative, among others.
