Give thanks for the work of others on World Gratitude Day 2022 | Lifestyle

Happy World Gratitude Day! It is always celebrated on Sept. 21. Holiday Insights says it is a day that gives us the opportunity to show your gratitude and appreciation. Created by the United Nations Meditation Group to express appreciation for the great things that individuals and groups do, this recognition is on a global basis.

According to the group’s website, its board of directors “presents an award to someone who we feel has done something outstanding in the spirit of Globalism.” This group also suggests that you find something to be grateful for and remember the feeling.

On a smaller scale, seek to give gratitude and appreciation to people in your life who have done good deeds. It could be something as simple as a thank you or a card of thanks to someone. Or you could offer some type of certificate or plaque of appreciation from a group you belong to, for contributions from an individual inside or outside of your group.

Expressing our appreciation is such a simple action that can make someone’s day better. We all have the power to lift the spirits of those around up by thanking them for the job they are doing, for taking on extra duties, for going the extra mile, for their encouragement, or for their cheerful smile at the time we may have nailed it the most. And for me, my gratitude today is for my proofreading husband, who keeps this column free from serious errors.

Quote for the day: “Gratitude is the sign of noble souls.” — Aesop

Hey, we made it through the 40-plus days of 100-degree weather. I bet we will all have memories of those days. Who would have thought we would be thankful for the 70- to 80-degree weather we are having now. I was such a whiner about being too warm, even indoors. But I soon zipped my lips when I saw people braving the days hotter than 100 degrees working outside day after day.

I am thankful for this weather because soon it will be cooler, and I will probably be out of sorts about it being too cold. Not that I am never satisfied; it is just that the harsh, hot weather was hard on the animals, the flowers and the trees, and the cold weather just chills the bones.

Now the question is this: Got those fall decorations up? Well? Well, we neither. It was too hot. And last weekend was so windy; it would have blown them all away. So much for my two-month decorating plan. But I still have time. This weekend, I will remove all the summer decor (because it was too windy to remove it all earlier) and go up to the attic and retrieve what I need to start.

Tomorrow is the first day of autumn, and there are only nine days until October; I might as well bring down the Halloween decorations, too, and get two months of decorating done at the same time. I know that was my plan earlier, so now I will implement it and see if I can get a bit of the fall colors scattered around — maybe a few pumpkins placed outside, too.

Galt High’s homecoming celebration starts next week. The theme is Pixar Fest. Each class and club has chosen a Pixar movie to use as a theme for its float. Sounds like it will be a good time.
