Company showcases work on new plant in Dundalk

A company that manufactures compostable products is coming back to Ontario.

Greenlid showcased the construction of its new facility in the Southgate Eco Park today in Dundalk.

The $14.8 million investment is being supported with $500,000 in funding through Ontario’s Southwestern Ontario Development Fund.

Morgan Wyatt is the CEO of Greenlid.

“Greenlid is excited to expand and build manufacturing operations in rural Ontario after rapid growth in the past several years. After its start on Dragons’ Den, Greenlid now supplies over 14,000 retail stores across North America with truly compostable product lines in the tableware and foodservice categories,” explained Wyatt.

“Greenlid’s growth created an opportunity for Ice River Sustainable Solutions, Ontario’s leading recycler of Blue Box PET Plastic, to take a majority shareholder position and bring sustainable manufacturing expertise to Greenlid. With the additional support of the Ontario government for this project and local community, Greenlid’s state of the art Non-wood Fiber Manufacturing and Innovation Center at Southgate EcoPark will now specialize in developing Ontario’s agricultural fiber waste into high value compostable products with less impact on the environment and further Ontario’s sustainability and economic development goals.”

Currently, its manufacturing is done in China.

But the 60,000 square foot facility in Dundalk will bring production and supply chain back to Ontario.

Vic Fedeli is Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade.

He says the Regional Development Program, launched in 2019, allows for the right conditions for businesses to grow and invest.

“Now through this program we’ve invested $66 million into 60 different companies and organizations,” said Fedeli. “And with this support, these companies have been able to invest $716 million of their dollars and create more than 1,200 jobs all across the province.”

Ontario Premier Doug Ford added that job creation continues to be a focus of the government.
