Charity cakewalk events returning to downtown Elkins | News, Sports, Jobs

ELKINS – A series of community events that raised thousands of dollars for local charities last year is set to return this evening in downtown Elkins.

The Elkins Community Cakewalks events are the creation of Citizens Creating Community, an informal group of volunteers.

“We are super excited about all of the local charities that we will be benefiting this year,” said Citizens Promoting Community founding member Phillips Kolsun.

Last year, the organization raised more than $ 4,000 for various local organizations, and it hopes to raise even more this year, Kolsun said.

The first of the 2022 Summer Cakewalk series will be offered tonight, an event which will benefit the Randolph County Humane Society.

The event will feature several cakewalks, as well as a “Grand Prize” walk worth $ 50. Fancy Paws, sponsoring the Grand Prize walk, will be present to clip pets’ toenails for a $ 5 donation.

All of this year’s cakewalks will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm in the Elkins Citizens Bank’s parking lot on Third Street.

On June 24, the next cakewalk event will benefit the Randolph County Humane Society.

The July 15 cakewalk event will benefit the GFWC Junior Woman’s Club of Elkins.

The event on July 29 will benefit the Randolph County Literacy Volunteers.

On Aug. 12, the cakewalk event will benefit the Tygart Valley United Way.

The Aug. 29 event will benefit the Appalachian Wounded Warriors.
